Country Manager / Director – Nigeria
Astria Learning · Lagos or Abuja, Nigeria (with in-country travel) · Full-time Reports to: CEO & Global Operations Manager
Astria Learning is an edtech company that partners with universities and institutions to deliver digital learning solutions — from online program development and learning management platforms to digital libraries and student enrollment services. Our mission is to help institutions expand access to quality education at scale.
We are looking for a commercially driven, senior leader to own Astria Learning's business in Nigeria. As Country Manager / Director, you will be the face of the company in-country, building the partnerships, team, and market presence that will define our growth across Nigeria's higher-education sector.
---
What you'll do
- Drive revenue. Own and deliver the Nigeria revenue target; build and manage the full partnership pipeline from prospecting through to signed contract.
- Build institutional partnerships. Initiate, negotiate, and close agreements with universities and higher-education institutions for online programs, LMS, digital library, and enrollment services.
- Navigate the regulatory landscape. Manage relationships with the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Federal Ministry of Education, and other relevant regulators to ensure program accreditation and ongoing compliance.
- Represent Astria Learning at the highest levels. Engage vice-chancellors, registrars, ministry officials, and sector bodies as the senior in-country representative.
- Lead and grow the local team. Recruit, develop, and manage Nigeria-based staff across business development, enrollment, and support functions; set clear targets and hold the team accountable.
- Ensure strong partner delivery. Oversee active partnerships — monitoring launch timelines, enrollment growth, partner satisfaction, and contract renewals.
- Keep HQ informed. Report weekly on pipeline, revenue, risks, and market intelligence; maintain accurate and current CRM records.
- Shape market strategy. Monitor the competitive and regulatory environment in Nigeria and recommend strategic adjustments to HQ as needed.
- Run the local operation. Manage the Nigeria office and provide day-to-day oversight of all in-country employees.

What we're looking for
- 8+ years of experience in business development, sales leadership, or general management, including at least 3 years leading a team — with a Nigeria-based career and deep local networks.
- A proven track record of closing large B2B or institutional deals in Nigeria across sectors such as higher education, edtech, telecoms, banking, or similar.
- Strong English communication skills — negotiation, executive presentations, and written correspondence.
- Comfort operating with full P&L-style accountability and remote HQ oversight, with a high degree of independence.
- Bachelor's degree required; a Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
- Willingness to travel regularly across Nigeria.
---
Nice to have
- Existing relationships within Nigeria's higher-education ecosystem, including with universities, the NUC, or the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU).
- Prior experience in edtech or digital education delivery.
- Familiarity with the regulatory framework governing online and distance learning in Nigeria.
---
How we define success in year one
- Signed university partnerships and revenue versus target.
- A qualified institutional pipeline built — measured by the number and value of active opportunities.
- Local team hired and fully operational.
- Enrollment growth across launched partner programs.
---
What we offer
A competitive base salary plus performance-based incentives, meaningful senior leadership autonomy, and the opportunity to shape how digital education reaches learners across Nigeria.
